E. Cape, South AfricaLions. A hyena is walking by because there is a lion to the left of the pic that has a kill. The hyena toyed with the thought of getting a piece and the lions are sending the message that is not a welcome move. Tortoise. Never pick one up unless to save its life. Fear makes them secrete a liquid that causes dehydration and death if they are unable to reach water. |

Lessons from the Bush # 1 Thou shall try new things in spite of fear
Shooting can be hazardous to your health... Getting my stance In our training, we were taught to shoot a rifle. Now, for many South Africans who grow up on farms or near the Bush, this is nothing new. For me it was absolutely petrifying. I have never handled a rifle nor seen one up close being fired. It did not help that the trio of South African guys in our group kept teasing me about how strong the kick back would be and how it would hurt if I did not rest the rifle on the right place on my …
Who does this? Canned Lion Hunt
Read this link first... then come back to me http://www.enkosini.com/CannedHunting.htm A canned lion hunt. The lioness ON A GAME RESERVE is separated from her cubs, cornered and once in a position where she is hard to miss shot by the trophy hunter who is not even able to shoot properly and drop her with a kill shot. Does she die from the bullet or is she electrocuted by the fence? Looks as if this trophy hunter needs NO hunting skills. He/she does not actually spend days tracking the …

The Knysna Elephants
When one travels the Garden Route from Cape Town towards the Eastern Cape, one passes through Knysna. The Knysna elephants are the Southernmost elephants in the world and elusive to man. There has been much debate as to if any still exist since the last known one was a lone female dubbed the Matriarch. She wandered the forest broken-hearted, having seen her breathen butchered through the years by men motivated by arrogance, ignorance and greed. The above photo is from the …
Lessons from the Bush # 2 Thou shall eat slowly
Microwave is so passe.... Single Euro city chicks will know what I'm talking about when I say God's gift to women is tampons, the perfect jeans, the little black dress, and microwaves. Okay, okay, so there are men out there as well picking up some woeful packaged dinner, coming home too tired or too lonely to cook, and letting the microwave do it's thing.... Well this slowed me down. A brai. A what? A brai. What is it? First, let me just mention that it took me about a week to understand what my …

Hi there. Welcome to my world of tunes! I am a lyricist, songwriter, rebel and guitar babe. I started out singing with one of Sweden's first all girl rock bands. When the band slowed down, I moved to New York City wearing a black mini, way too much make-up, and a pocket full of songs I figured were going to make me famous. I worked full time days and did comedy improv and solo performances at night. At one band audition, the drummer looked at me and stated condescendingly "You are behind the beat babe." I had no idea what he meant but the dripping sarcasm in his tone when he said "babe" made me decide that I was going to need more cred if I wanted to do music. I had a drummer boyfriend who had attended Berklee College of Music and since I wanted more than anything to be taken seriously as a "babe" and get right with the beat, I moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. I was one of few female guitar students (I think there were two of us- just to show how things have changed in the last years!) The advantage was being alone in classes with gorgeous, difficult, long haired guitarists...although I ended up in a relationship for most of my time there so I just enjoyed the eye candy. In Boston, I started my own band, played around town. I won honors, scholarships and awards and started to feel that I was getting that cred. After graduating from Berklee, I worked as a music teacher with children from disadvantaged communities. Although rewarding, the work was exhausting and I had to cut down on gigs. I moved to Los Angeles 2 years later to attend Joanne Barron Theatre Studio and try my luck as an actress while performing around the Los Angeles area. My first EP "Anouschka" did well on local college stations in Boston and I got a great write up in the leading industry magazine Music Connection for my live gig in Los Angeles with Alan Hinds. They predicted that I would be a leading AC artist in a year...unfortunately supposed record/publishing deals fell through and showed me that nasty underbelly of the music biz! As for acting, while I was considered exceptionally talented by my teachers, I got whiffs of occasional sleeze in the business that made me slightly uncomfortable (I was advised by one agent to give some blow jobs in exchange for a casting). I was hungry for success but by these terms I was obviously not hungry enough. I wanted to get ahead on talent. I opted to leave and moved to Sweden. What was I thinking? Sweden is a very small country for a cosmo city girl like me, who grew up all over the world. It took two years till things started happening. I started playing with James Bradley Junior (Slash, Beastie Boys) and Chuck Anthony (Ace of Base, Back Street Boys). To this day I consider them among my closest friends in the biz. I fell into a blues crowd in Sweden since that was the only place I found to play and my songs took on a blusey twist. It was nice to feel accepted somewhere. I was cast in TV ads which was the high light of my years there. I also produced my first full length album in Sweden in 2005. The album "My Kind of Heartbreak" placed on the Americana Chart in the U.S.A and my blend of pop rock & blues resonated with non-commercial music lovers and radio DJs worldwide- songs got played on indie radio stations and podcasts from Argentina to Japan. The band and I were invited to play at few world class clubs like BB Kings Blues Club in Los Angeles, but I could not generate funding/ management interest so we parted on the best of terms and I moved on to Berlin to get access to more gigs and labels. Berlin has been good to me. I just released a new EP titled "So Why?" produced with Harris Johns at Berlin Music Lab. It is making waves and getting steady rotation. That is good news considering I did not have a CD party or promote it. Instead I signed up for a volunteer program to work with wildlife and be trained as a game ranger in the Bush in South Africa. I wanted to spend my money on something with real value beyond ego driven dreams. I still live by the creed "do what you love and you will have what you need". |

She composes, writes lyrics, plays guitar and sings, and produces her albums- all of which receive international airplay and top indie charts.Home of Rock, Germany compares her to Joan Osborne, Shaina Twain and Nora Jones and calls her "a master of versatility, disguising depth with deceptive simplicity." Rootstime in Belgium calls her music "rich Americana with marvelous guitar arrangements". Sweden's Musiklivet praises her musicality that "can handle anything from a slow blues to up- tempo pop". In 2005 her album "My Kind of Heartbreak" placed on the AMA Charts in Nashville, TN. Her 2010 release "So Why?" had top rotation in France, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands and placed # 1 in Americana on the Reverbnation Charts for a year, and top ten in pop-rock for 6 months. In 2011, Anouschka released the single "Dying to Be Free" with South African author Gareth Patterson. The song is intended to raise awareness against cruel trophy and canned lion hunting practices. Anouschka is passionate about animal welfare, the environment, and human rights. Anouschka has charmed audiences in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, South Africa, Sweden and Germany. Past line-ups have included Chuck Anthony (Ace of Base, Back Street Boys, Eric Bibb) James Bradley Jr. (Beastie Boys, Anita Baker, Slash, Chuck Mangione) to name a few. Anouschka will release her first album where she plays solo without a band this May. In addition to her music career, Anouschka works as the music correspondent for NPR Berlin 104.1 FM. Derzeit arbeitet Anouschka an ihrem nächsten längeren Album. |
